GOVERNMENTS HOUSE)
HONGKONG. 25th. June, 1919.
جابكم
My Lord,
With reference to Your Lordship's Con-
-fidential Despatch of the 26th. April, I have the honour to
state that the Orient Tobacco Factory is still under super-
-vision, but that there is no restriction on its trading.
2.
I have to report in this connection that
the Government of the Philippine Islands has recently sold as a going concern El Oriente Fabrica de Tabacos, C. Ingénohl,
Manila, which was run conjointly with the Hongkong Manufactory,
the trade marks being registered in Manila and Hongkong and being used in common. The majority of the marks in the Hong- -kong Register are in the name of the Manila concern.
3.
I enclose a copy of a letter which I caus- -ed to be addressed in April last to the American Consul- -General regarding this matter. A representative of the purchasers of the Manila business came to the Colony to investigate the Hongkong business, and he intimated that his principals were considering the question of purchase; but no communication has been received from them.
4.
When the treaty of peace is signed, it will presumably be no longer competent for this Government to wind up and sell the Hongkong concern, and the question of the trade mark rights will be one for settlement between Mr.
Ingenohl
